Welcome to the 31st SIR Annual Scientific Meeting, the first to be held in an international venue ! This is an exciting time in our specialty, and this meeting will unite our energy, innovation and research together in one place. A stellar international faculty in a superb international location will provide you with an unparalleled educational experience.
The meeting is based on one simple premise : Interventional radiology is the best specialty in PHYSICIANS...and this venue will showcase all we have to offer. We are a dynamic specialty at the forefront of health care, with an unequalled ability to innovate, adapt, and grow. With this in mind, we have emphasized emerging trends in the programming, while maintaining the fundamental core of the specialty. Whether you are seeking exposure to the leading edge or solidifying your foundation in IR-you will find what you need at this meeting.
One of the greatest strengths of interventional radiology is the diversity of it member’s interests, combined with their common dedication for providing quality patient care. The scientific and educational content of the meeting will appeal to all members of SIR and provide many opportunities for enhancing their practices. Critical new trends, such as the fundamental role of longitudinal patient management, the return of noninvasive cardiac imaging, carotid stenting, and oncologic interventions, will be highlighted. At all times, the emphasis will be on what you can do in your practice today and tomorrow.
This year the distribution of plenary and categorical courses during the meeting will be linked by topic so that attendees seeking in-depth exposure to certain areas can do so over a day or two. There will be an increased emphasis on electronic posters. A new group of activities, Seminars, will be introduced to focus on professional development issues important to our practices and careers.
Toronto is an exciting multi-cultural city of international caliber. There are innumerable excellent restaurants, shops, and cultural activities to supplement the meeting experience. Just be sure to travel with your passport or other approved identification if you are crossing the border !
The Annual Scientific Meeting Committee is extremely fortunate to have the support of our corporate partners. We appreciate their generous support of the meeting and enthusiasm for the specialty.
See you in Toronto,
John A. Kaufman, MD
